WTSD HomeTCSPPParent-School Compact Nondiscriminatory Policy
For the past three years, WTSD has received funds from the federal government to help fund programs and purchase instructional materials to improve student performance in the classroom. Student data is collected and analyzed by the school to determine which content areas our students are not performing up to the Tennessee's minimum standards. The content areas of particular importance are math, science, reading, and language arts.
The Tennessee Department of Education allocates these funds to each school system and monitors it's use to ensure all money is spent appropriately. West Tennessee School for the Deaf receives the following federal money:
* Title I, Part A
*
Title II, Part A
* Title II, Part D
* Title IV, Part A

West Tennessee School for the Deaf is designated as a "Schoolwide School" in dealing with federal money. A schoolwide school means that items purchased with federal money can be used by all students attending our school. Otherwise, only the students who have been classified as low-performing students could use the items purchased with federal money.

According to federal law, parents have the right to participate in the planning and budgeting process of how federal money is spent in our school. Each year, parents are asked to sign a "Parent-School Compact" which states what the parent will do to become more involved in their child's education. It also states what the student and teacher will do to ensure that the student receives the best education possible. All signed "Parent-School Compacts" for WTSD students area kept on file in the federal program director's office.
