Homework

Usually, there will be no homework on Friday.  Students will have no more than thirty minutes of homework M-Th.  The homework will be skills they need to practice independently for Math, practice of Spelling words so they will know how to spell them for the test, and, occasionally, other assignments.  The majority, if not all of the work is supposed to be independent practice.  Your child has shown they can do it alone or they know how to ask a question to remind themselves of how to do it.  Students should not use calculators on Math assignments unless the directions state to use one.

Homework is important to me for a few reasons:

1.  It helps to teach students to be independently responsible for an assigned job.

2.  It is practice for skills that need to be memorized such as spelling words by sight or adding, subtracting, and multiplying.

3.  It may motivate students to communicate with other people for assistance.

4.  It may encourage students on assignments and it may encourage their confidence in their abilities when homework is completed and they receive a positive comment and a good grade for their work.

If assignments take a lot longer than thirty minutes or students really don't understand them, please let me know so I can adjust the work.
