WTSD HomeParent Handbook Student Handbook Parent Information
We can't over emphasize the importance of parents being involved with their child's education. We have a committee that is currently in the process of writing WTSD's "Parent Involvement Policy." We hope this policy will provide numerous ways for you to become more involved at school and feel comfortable approaching our administration staff about your concerns. If you would like to be a part of this committee, then please contact the school at (731) 423-5705.
One of the most important things you can do at home to help your child learn is to communicate with your child by signing. Signing to your child helps him/her build a strong language and vocabulary base to build on. We can help you learn to sign and communicate with your child. Call us at (731) 423-5705.
Language is built by communicating with your child through sign and providing opportunities for him/her to see words. A wonderful way of providing opportunities for your child to see the written word is by reading to your child and labeling everything you can in the house. Write the word "door" on a strip of paper and tape it to the door. Don't stop at just the door. Label everything in the kitchen, bedroon, bathroom, living room, etc.
Reading to your child
not only helps to build their language, but it is a wonderful way to bond with your child. If your child sees you reading and enjoying it, it will encourage them to want to read more. Please take the time to read to your child!
